NASA LAUNCHES MARS 2020 PERSEVERANCE ROVER JULY 30

Our Engineering Dept. & Sales Dept. have worked with NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory since September 2018 on this design. The springs were created in our Constant Force Dept.

John Evans' Sons springs used in NASA Perseverance Mars Rover.

Perseverance will cruise through space for nearly seven months, aiming to land in Mars’s Jezero crater on February 18, 2021.

Physical facts:

  • 2,260 pounds
  • 10 ft. long, 9 ft. wide, 7 ft. tall
  • Plutonium-238 powered
  • Generates 110 watts of electricity plus two lithium-ion rechargeable batteries

Prior to this achievement, John Evans’ has built similar springs for the suspension of the still operational, mars rover Curiosity, landing on August 6, 2012.

Curiosity’s rover design served as the basis for NASA’s 2021 Perseverance mission. JPL, a division of Cal Tech, manages the Mars Science Laboratory project for NASA’s Science Mission Directorate, Washington.
